Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita have opened the doors to their $1 billion, 27-story Mumbai home for the first time.
It’s been rumored to have multiple helicopter landing areas and a snow room, and measures 400,000 square feet.
The family moved in to the home, named Antilla, last September. “It’s a modern home with an Indian heart,” Nita said. Indian inspiration fills the Ambani home adorned with rare wood, marble and crystal. The home’s accents were crafted by Indian artisans.
With double and triple height ceilings on some floors, the building climbs skyward nearly 600 feet, the equivalent of a 40 story building. It features a multistory garage, a grand ballroom, guest suites, a spa and a theater. The family living area for the Ambanis and their three children is near the top of the building surrounded by terraced gardens.
Despite the Ambani’s well-known philanthropy–they formed a cricket team, built a hospital and are developing a university–the home has its critics. Some say the home is far too opulent for a city where so many people live in slums, while some don’t even have a home at all.
