For the First Time Ever, a Building Will Be Covered Completely in Trees

Stefano Boeri, the world-renown Italian architect, who designed Milan, Italy’s vertical forest, Bosco Verticale is aiming to take his “tree house” concept to the next level.

He has announced that a 36-story, “predominantly residential” building is in the works. It will be located in Lausanne, Switzerland.

It will be called La Tour des Cèdres, which translates to “the cedar tower,” and is slated to feature two-, three-, four-, and five-bedroom apartment units; a gym; and a top-floor restaurant; along with hundreds of trees, thousands of shrubs, and tens of thousands of plants.

The green aesthetic does have a purpose beyond a beautiful sight to see. The abundance of greenery that will reportedly surround La Tour des Cèdres is said to be able to trap dust; keep the noise from outside, outside; and help to circulate more oxygen throughout the surrounding neighborhood.
