{"id":970,"date":"2011-08-22T21:09:27","date_gmt":"2011-08-22T21:09:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newwebdev.wordpress-developer.us\/hauteresidence\/?p=970"},"modified":"2012-05-12T21:14:40","modified_gmt":"2012-05-12T21:14:40","slug":"paul-mitchell-founder-john-paul-dejoria-wants-scott-rothsteins-piece-of-versace-mansion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newwebdev.wordpress-developer.us\/hauteresidence\/paul-mitchell-founder-john-paul-dejoria-wants-scott-rothsteins-piece-of-versace-mansion\/","title":{"rendered":"Paul Mitchell Founder John Paul DeJoria Wants Scott Rothstein\u2019s Piece of Versace Mansion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Paul Mitchell<\/strong> hair product founder <strong>John Paul DeJoria<\/strong>, a self-made billionaire, wants to own a piece of the former Versace mansion in South Beach.<\/p>\n<p>DeJoria is seeking to buy into Casa Casuarina LLC, the company that owns the Versace mansion.\u00a0 Attorneys for the company filed papers Tuesday in federal court, saying DeJoria is ready to offer $100,000 to close the deal.<\/p>\n<p>The federal government had seized 9.9 percent of Casa Casuarina owned by former attorney Scott Rothstein, after Rothstein&#8217;s $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme was exposed in October of 2009.\u00a0 The mansion reopened last year as a boutique luxury hotel, restaurant and event space, called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/www.thevillabybartong.com\" target=\"_blank\">Villa by Barton G.<\/a> The other owner of the mansion is former telecom executive <strong>Peter Loftin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago, the government filed a notice saying it would <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/southflorida\/blog\/picking_up_the_pieces\/2011\/08\/versace-mansion-rothstein-zero-for.html?page=all\" target=\"_blank\">abandon its interest in the property<\/a>, because it considered its claim worthless.\u00a0 The mansion is subject to a mortgage and other claims that exceed its current value, so a forced sale of the property would yield nothing at this time.<\/p>\n<p>But, <strong>Adam Steinberg<\/strong>, an attorney for Loftin, said DeJoria is willing to pay the government $100,000 for its claim on the property.\u00a0 That money would ostensibly be used to help pay the victims of Rothstein\u2019s crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day, we wanted to let the court know about this fantastic offer,\u201d Steinberg said.\u00a0 \u201cThe Rothstein stain has been cleaned up now.
