Andr\u00e9 Fu<\/a> is responsible for\u00a0the interiors of some of the world’s most celebrated spaces including the St.\u00a0Regis Hotel<\/a> in Hong Kong, Waldorf\u00a0Astoria Bangkok, Berkeley Hotel in London, and\u00a0Villa la Coste in Aix-en-Provence. The\u00a053 West 53\u00a0residence<\/a> is his first foray into the North American market.<\/p>\n

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean\u00a0Nouvel<\/a> with interior architecture by Thierry Despont<\/a>, 53 West 53 features 145\u00a0residences ranging in size from one- to four-bedrooms, including full-floor\u00a0homes and duplex penthouses with private elevators. The\u00a0building\u2019s\u00a0tapering design and Nouvel\u2019s signature exposed structural system, known as the\u00a0diagrid, which means that the layout of each\u00a0residence is completely unique.<\/div>\n

\u201c53 West 53 is an architectural masterpiece,\u201d said\u00a0David Penick, Managing Director at Hines. \u201cWe commissioned Andr\u00e9 Fu to design\u00a0our first model residence because his modernist sensibilities complement Jean\u00a0Nouvel\u2019s completely unique architecture.\u201d<\/div>\n

The residence features distinctive design elements that\u00a0evoke an artful mindset.\u00a0\u00a0Fu collaborated\u00a0with French gallerist Emmanuel Perrotin to curate key artworks showcased\u00a0throughout the home.<\/p>\n

New pieces from the Andre Fu Living collection, that\u00a0recently debuted at Milan\u2019s Furniture Fair, are featured extensively throughout\u00a0the space. The collection is\u00a0inspired by Fu\u2019s childhood memories of memorable\u00a0places and different cultures that informed Fu\u2019s distinct aesthetic. The\u00a0furniture pieces complement the residence\u2019s unique\u00a0architecture with a palette of\u00a0stained grey oak and anodized bronze, highlighted with subtle accents of dusty\u00a0burgundy and mineral blue.<\/p>\n

Walking into the home, visitors are greeted by a stunning,\u00a0minimalist canvas artwork by renowned Korean artist Pak Seo Bo. It sits above\u00a0a\u00a0custom-made cast bronze console table set on limed oak flooring. The corner living\u00a0room includes a bespoke sculptural curvilinear\u00a0screen in high gloss piano\u00a0lacquer that depicts the silhouette of the city\u2019s skyline. It is set against a\u00a0plush ivory sofa and the Interlock\u00a0coffee tables from the AFL collection.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0separate dining area includes a vast six-seater dining table and a handmade screen\u00a0partition\u00a0designed by Fu. The master bedroom suite showcases a palette of expressive\u00a0mineral blue and icy grays. The secondary bedroom\u00a0features a Bamboo Watercolor\u00a0carpet, and an ottoman upholstered in mud salmon, accented with a palette of\u00a0dusty burgundy. The\u00a0space is finished with stunning bronze table lamps with\u00a0glowing cast glass, as well as an array of modern century inspired objects.<\/p>\n

53 West 53 has the unique distinction\u00a0of being integrated into MoMA\u2019s architecturally distinguished urban campus.\u00a0Three new gallery\u00a0levels will be created within the base of the building, each\u00a0accessed from and connected with the museum\u2019s existing exhibition spaces.\u00a0Residents\u00a0will receive deeded memberships at MoMA, which include the potential for the\u00a0building to host private events in the\u00a0museum\u2019s iconic Sculpture Garden.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
