The challenge to transform the closed floor plan into an open, integrated space was further complicated by the aging building and outdated plumbing, A\/C and electrical ductwork, as well as the elevator lobby.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Also, extant in the space were structural columns that could not be removed, resulting in a chaotic, narrow, L-shaped kitchen layout with limited storage.
