In 1927, English master architect Herbert Palmer, the illegitimate son of son of King Edward the VII and a lady-in-waiting of King Edward VII\u2019s mother, Queen Victoria designed and built this La Jolla home named \u201cCasa de las Joyas\u201d or the \u201cHouse of Jewels\u201d, also affectionately deemed as \u201cThe Taj\u201d by locals. Palmer was exiled from England and lived for years in India, where he admired Eastern architecture. Incorporating five types of Eastern architecture in creating his \u201cJewel\u201d, it includes numerous arches, circular walls, stonework, and beams. Its distinctive three pointed white domes resemble the famed Taj Mahal in India, however, it was not meant to be a replica of the famed Taj Mahal in India. The home is a highly visible landmark seen my most who travel into La Jolla.<\/p>\n
