While the preservation of religious institutions is a noble effort\u2014after all, centuries of history and marks of fine architecture are too valuable not to protect\u2014it is often a feat too difficult to achieve.<\/p>\n
But sometimes, there is saving. Such is the case with The Sanctuary, Seattle\u2019s newest luxury community in Capitol Hill. This hub of lavish townhomes replaces the First Church of Christ Scientist, a Seattle landmark since 1977. The Classical Revival-style church was closed in 2006, and was subsequently scooped up by a developer for $3.3 million.<\/p>\n
In an effort to preserve the building\u2019s architectural value and integrity, the developer turned the closed-down church into this living community. After a tumultuous start, the residences have finally been finished.<\/p>\n
Stained glass is virtually the only church-like element that remains in the structure, adding a dated yet beautiful touch to the modernized property. Exposed brick walls, a stunning grand atrium and rooftop terraces are just a few details residents will enjoy.<\/p>\n
The first inhabitants began arriving in their new townhomes this year. And although prices were raised by five percent two months ago, The Sanctuary just sold out.<\/p>\n
