Perhaps it is also a question on your mind. Not living here and seeing all the progress makes it hard to fully grasp what is happening in the Costa Ballena. To add to this, our real estate market is showing (very) strong signs of life.<\/p>\n<p>We need to understand some local history in order to make such wild, bold predictions. I am not one to predict the future, but as it\u2019s on your mind, lets consider this one together with a 15-year timeline:<\/p>\n<p>2000\u2013No paved roads, no electricity (to speak of), Uvita has one \u201cSoda\u201d<br \/>\n2001\u2013The land-grab began<br \/>\n2002\u2013No grocery stores (just small convenience stores within neighborhoods), no legal firms, no local hardware stores, no banks<br \/>\n2003\u2013The real estate market heats up, 100-acre farms acquired, larger homes being built<br \/>\n2004\u2013Market super strong, two internet caf\u00e9s open<br \/>\n2005\u2013Continued building and development, a caf\u00e9 opens in Uvita, more cell phone numbers available and better cell service<br \/>\n2006\u2013A Grocery store opens, and here comes the first banks and ATM<br \/>\n2007\u2013Two banks in Uvita, two law firms, several developments, new hotel<br \/>\n2008\u2013 Going strong until September; Lehman Bros collapse\u2026.<br \/>\n2009\u2013No market<br \/>\n2010\u2013Repeat of 2009; Road is paved from Quepos to Dominical (YAY!)<br \/>\n2011\u2013Repeat of prior two years<br \/>\n2012\u2013Tourism begins to pick up, festival of Whales goes global\u2013Uvita is on the map<br \/>\n2013\u2013Here comes the first wave of buyers, bargains are almost over, market returns<br \/>\n2014\u2013All systems go, funds are flowing to Costa Rica, bus station under construction, larger developments under way, and much more<br \/>\n2015\u2013Vamos a ver! Prime Dominical commercial location sold, several developments announced, tourism at highest levels known.<\/p>\n<p>We know of a few very well-funded groups that are deploying large amounts of capital in the local area with exciting plans for the future of the Costa Ballena. From residential homes and estates, luxury hotels, restaurants, and more, we are poised to finally be on the map.<\/p>\n<p>With over 60 homes under construction in our Costa Ballena, ranging in prices up to $3.4 million, we are creating a community for all budgets. The very best ocean view properties are once again getting absorbed.<\/p>\n<p>Our private schools are growing, tourism is rising, the rental home market continues to thrive and all three grocery stores have expanded, twice. The main coastal highway was paved last year, the town of Dominical will have a boardwalk along the beach, and public water is also in the works to service more communities. These are all very strong signs of building a sustainable community.<\/p>\n<p>Dominical and the surrounding communities of the Costa Ballena are fantastic places to raise your family, retire, and vacation, and now even more so. On the economic side of things it looks as if we will attract more and more global investment and tourism to the area.<\/p>\n<p>You may be noticing a consistent theme in my recent posts portraying only the positive. What can I say? From my vantage point, I do believe (and this is going to sound so clich\u00e9), that the best is yet to be.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daveed Hollander and John Wieland
